TikTok Safety: How to Have Fun and Stay Safe

TikTok is a cool app where you can make and watch fun videos, but it’s really important to stay safe while using it. Here are some simple tips to help you use TikTok in a safe way:

1. Make Your Account Private

If your account is private, only your friends can see your videos and send you messages. This helps you stay safe and control who can watch your stuff.

  • How to do it: Go to your profile, tap the three dots (the menu), and choose Privacy. Change your account to Private.

2. Be Careful What You Share

Before you post a video, think about what’s in it. Don’t share things like your full name, address, or where you go to school. Keep your videos fun, but make sure they don’t give away any personal details.

  • Tip: Always ask yourself, "Would I want everyone to know this?"

3. Only Talk to People You Know

You can talk to people on TikTok, but only chat with your friends—people you know in real life. If a stranger messages you or says something that feels weird, you can block them and tell a trusted adult.

  • Tip: You can always block someone if they make you feel uncomfortable!

4. Take Breaks from the Screen

It’s fun to watch TikTok, but it’s also important to take breaks. Try not to spend too much time on your device—give your eyes and brain a rest! Do something fun offline, like playing outside or reading a book.

  • How to do it: Set a timer to remind you when it’s time to take a break.

5. Stop Cyberbullying

Sometimes, people might leave mean comments. If this happens to you, don’t reply. Instead, block the person and report them to TikTok. You can also talk to a parent, teacher, or trusted adult if something bothers you.

  • Tip: Be kind to others, and always treat people how you’d like to be treated.

6. Keep Personal Info Private

Don’t share your phone number, home address, or any other private information on TikTok. This helps keep you safe and your personal details protected.

  • Tip: Keep private stuff out of your profile and videos!

7. Use TikTok’s Safety Settings

TikTok has tools to help you stay safe, like choosing who can comment on your videos or who can send you messages. Make sure to check your settings to keep everything safe and fun.

  • Tip: Look in the Privacy section of the app to see what safety options are available!
